Picking up the Pieces
Penrith Church of Christ

Picking up the Pieces (PUP) is a project that seeks out and connects with the helpless, the needy and the poor. We wish to help people 'pick up' the shattered pieces in their lives, to befriend, assist where we can, and to listen.
The ministry of WIN (Women In Need) is an outreach of Picking up the Pieces which has been operating for seven years. It is a program which aims to provide contact, connection, and care with street workers in the Blacktown area of Sydney. Women are provided with a small meal and are engaged in conversation. They are referred to alternate services and advice when needed. Special events for these women are provided occasionally at the church, which is demonstrated to be an accepting place.
In addition to WIN, PUP incorporates a Food Voucher Program, an After Hours Emergency Contact and a Christmas Day Community Luncheon.

Practically, PUP uses a BBQ trailer where we supply a meal in the streets of the Department of Housing areas of Penrith. Ultimately we wish to provide a safe place to converse and share with those isolated in the community. The trailer team (soup kitchen) currently go out once a fortnight on a wednesday night. We are in the process of expanding to another night as well.
